Xanadu is changing the way rooms are used. We are moving away from memberships, which have been a great way to subsidize artists and performance groups for years, but which must adapt to the needs of the center.
Instead, we are moving to time slots. Anyone can buy time and use it (share it or pool together as a group, whatever works). The room rates allow for people to use them as needed, but provide more accurate pricing.
As we do this, the purpose is to fund the repairs, upgrades, and evolution of the space. To enhance what we have to give more. It adjusts to the room use that is in the hundreds of hours beyond the 3 hours allocated per month. The "use when not occupied" loophole has been a rough exploit for those that would use the space far more than we intended, without income around it.
This is a healthy move. It allows the nonprofit to focus on programs, art, and getting back to granting. It allows the center an income that keeps it going.
